not a nice girl

Thursday, July 31, 2003:

"I think it's very important for our society to respect each individual, to welcome those with good hearts, to be a welcoming country," Bush added. "On the other hand, that does not mean that somebody like me needs to compromise on an issue such as marriage."
~President George W. Bush

"I believe marriage is between a man and a woman, and I think we ought to codify that one way or another," Bush told reporters at a White House news conference. "And we've got lawyers looking at the best way to do that."

phooey. hogwash, even. it calls up lots of angry, unhappy words and feelings. i feel awful that there are people out there that think like this and even more so when i realize that people like this run our country. i am in no way in agreement with any of this, but niko says it much better and with more passion. go visit her, tell her i sent you.

it's weird to read this on my parents' anniversary, of all days.

oh my god(dess). either or, take your pick. this was the subject of the aforementioned eaten post. it made me angry. the abortionist in question never stated her religious denomination. her alleged quote could have been a sarcastic one, not meant to be taken literally. but the article continues with mentioning pagan groups and their beliefs, turning them around and mocking them. the author of the article, not to be confused with the livejournal-ist that posted it, states that our culture is becoming paganized, because the christian church is becoming culturally irrelevant. the article ends with a list of ways to avoid modern paganism. the person that posted this in his livejournal is in accordance with the author, calling abortionists and/or pagans "sinister."

His journal is a continuation of things that make me angry. this is a (relatively) free country, so he is free to say what he thinks and poke fun at someone who makes a grammatical error in his comments (which led to a disparaging comment on the someone's education) and i am free to live my life and beliefs and continue to choose to leave things uncapitalized. if "He Who Wears the Pants" (his phrasing not mine) ever stumbles across my blog, i hope he doesn't make such a comment on my typing and where i could have possibly learned to not ever use the shift key. i also hope he knows that "masculist" doesn't seem to be a real word.

eh, my original post was better written. i'm too irritated about several things to make this one more like the last one.

i found her... and other things

well, most people that live near me here noticed the hubub a few mornings ago by the nearby creek. a body was found; it was mentioned during the KSWB news at 10 briefly that night. i was curious to see if the dead woman had appeared in the news again. nothing in the union-tribune archives this morning. so i looked in the north county times and found
this and this. and i was just telling the soon-to-be new neighbors that this neighborhood was safe and nothing happens here.

hooray for the little guy! and i mean that literally. i was watching fame on nbc a couple nights ago, and luckily i got to watch most of the last episode. harlemm lee won. i'm glad for him. i didn't think america would vote for an older, short, slightly balding chinese man who works as an office assistant in a hospital. but he was good and deserved to win. i think i might have seen the part where they kicked the taller, younger, non bald asian guy with glasses, but i never saw him perform. it was a good episode to watch, my family got into it too. granted i hadn't ever seen more than the last 15 mins of any of the other episodes, but oh well.

comic con was okay. not as much excitement as other cons and definitely so much bigger than it used to be, but i got to see the famous piro and seraphim, even if i did miss the megatokyo panel. and i bought the book! and got sketches! and got some comics signed! and met neato people! and knit half a sweater while in line and walking around!! and almost got something for about 80% off, but i couldn't afford it by then. :( but a good con overall.

haven't been blogging much. hard to do with a dial-up connection. most people aren't blogging much. not much motivation anyway. nothing new here. just the usual...
